About Balat Toy Museum
Balat Toy Museum is a warm and nostalgic place in the historic Balat district of Istanbul. It was founded by Timur İnçoğlu in 2021 and brings together thousands of toys collected from many parts of the world. The museum is designed for both children and adults, reminding visitors of the joy and imagination that toys carry through generations.
A Rich Collection
Inside the museum, there are more than 17,000 toys displayed in different themes. Visitors can see antique dolls, wooden toys, tin soldiers, diecast cars, LEGO sets, and detailed dioramas inspired by famous movie scenes. One of the highlights is Turkey’s largest lead soldier collection. Traditional Karagöz and Hacivat puppets, as well as models of ships, airplanes, and motorcycles, add even more color to the exhibits.

Reaching Balat Toy Museum is easy and convenient from various parts of Istanbul. Here’s a guide to help you get there:
Tram: Take the T5 Golden Horn Tram and get off at Balat or Fener stop. The museum is a short walk from there.
Metro: You can get off at the Halic stop with the Yenikapi Seyrantepe Haciosman M2 Metro and reach the Balat Toy Museum on a 15-minute walk.
Bus: You can use buses 399C, 55T, 44B, 399B, 41Y, 55T, 99A from such directions as Eminonu, Taksim, Gaziosmanpasa and get off at the Ayakapı stop.
Taxi: A taxi from Sultanahmet takes about 10 minutes, and from Taksim about 20 minutes. Ask for Balat Ayakapı, near the Golden Horn.
On Foot: From Eminonu, you can walk along the Golden Horn coast. It takes around 30 to 40 minutes and offers a nice view on the way.
All About Balat Toy Museum
Balat Toy Museum sits in a historic building in Fatih Ayakapı and welcomes visitors of all ages with a large, living collection. Opened on 13 June 2021 by Timur İnçoğlu, the museum spreads over about 1,000 m² and brings together more than 17,000 toys in 17 curated themes.
The displays cover many decades and styles. You will find antique dolls from the 1940s, tin toys, wooden pieces, ship and airplane models, Tamiya motorcycle kits, a rich LEGO corner, and well-known cartoon and Disney characters. Handcrafted dioramas recreate memorable film scenes, and a moving 1:24 train and station scene anchors the upper floor. The museum also houses Turkey’s largest lead soldier collection with around 3,500 figures, plus traditional Karagöz and Hacivat puppets and a selection of classic Eyüp toys.
The location is easy to plan into a Balat walk. The museum is within walking distance of the Fener Greek Patriarchate, the Bulgarian St. Stephen Church, the Red School, Rezzan Has Museum, and the colorful Balat houses. The nearest stop is Ayakapı on the Balat coast. Families, collectors, and curious travelers will all find something to enjoy here.
