What's There?

The Theodosius Cistern known in Turkish Serefiye Sarnici was built between 428 – 443 by the order of Byzantine Emperor Theodosius II to store fresh water for the city by the Valens Aqueduct from the Belgrade Forest. The oldest undergrond cistern, which is now open to all visitors after 8 years of restoration, is also organized in concerts and exhibitions that supported by 32 marble columbs covers 45x25 square meters.

The tour starts from the stop of the BigBus touristic buses in the Sultanahmet Square, approximately 20 meters (65 ft) in front of the Hagia Sophia Museum. The Sultanahmet Square can be reached via the T1 Tram Line.
