Established in 1491, Galata Mevlevi Lodge displays a wide range of Turkish calligraphic art, music, and Mevlevi culture artifacts. Once you are familiar with the culture, it is recommended to see the reminiscent of the past through an ongoing ceremony.
Every Sunday, Galata Mevlevi Lodge houses a Whirling Dervishes Ceremony for its visitors. As an art centre, Mevlevi Lodge provided its residents with many forms of art, and one of the most popular of these is the Whirling Dervishes Ceremony, which shows a journey that represents man's spiritual ascension to perfection through reason and love. Galata Mevlevi Lodge is closed on Mondays, but you can take in its beauties every other day.
Galata Mevlevi Lodge is a tranquil place where you can look within yourself in its peaceful atmosphere if you can take your eyes of the beautifully designed lodges. From the final resting places of important people to the walnut covered floors of Sema areas where the dervishes perform their rituals, Galata Mevlevi Lodge gives its visitors dense emotions. Similar to Buddhist monks, dervishes of the Mevlevi Brotherhood try to break free from their earthly bodies. Their frame of mind can enlighten you about yourself no matter how brief your visit is.
